Day 5 - Six songs that you’re addicted to

(Is it awful that I want to change it to: Six songs to which you are addicted? Thought so.)

(And only SIX? That's criminal.)

Dream a Little Dream of Me by Ella Fitzgerald & Louie Armstrong.
While we were still internet dating, I told Hubby we needed a song to be "our song". I don't recall the song I suggested, because once he suggested this one--it was THE one. It is just perfect for us. And I never get tired of listening to it. Classic and so very meaningful. (I just listened to it twice, heh.)

Shine On You Crazy Diamond
"Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts 1 - 5) [2011 - Remaster]" by Pink Floyd
According to the Wikipedia entry on this song ""Shine On You Crazy Diamond" was written about the band's former leader, Syd Barrett."
This song could also have been written about my brother. And it's Joe that I think of whenever I hear "Shine On You Crazy Diamond". Especially the lines "Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun." and "Come on you target for faraway laughter, come on you stranger, you legend, you martyr, and shine!".
Dear god, but I miss him so very much every day. 11 years he's been gone and it's still so hard.

Walk by Foo Fighters.
Another band I discovered very late. In fact, this is the first of their songs that I remember very clearly where I heard it the first time. It is featured in the movie "Thor", during the bar scene in the background, and again over the end credits. I noticed it the first time we saw that movie and the second time we saw it I asked Hubby if he knew who the artist was and (of course) he did. I really like almost all of their music and I love how Dave Grohl has reinvented himself after Nirvana. I admire him very much.

And this song...it makes my eyes wet every single time I hear it. The lyrics speak to me, to a part of me that is buried deep inside this cynical, world-weary outer shell. The tiny part of me that still has hope
is moved by these words: )

Kickstart My Heart by Motley Crue. (c) Motley Crue.
I came late to the Motley Crue love. Waaay after their big hair days. They kick ass and take names, even now, when they are in their 50's (Mick Mars is 63!! Damn!), they still rock. That link goes to a compilation video of their 2011 tour with "Kickstart My Heart" as the background music. It features Tommy Lee's round roller coaster drum kit. I would suffer my claustrophobia and fear of lots of people in a small space to see them. Which, I apparently need to do this year since it's their 'final' tour. With Mick being in his 60s, I guess it might really be true. The closest they will be to me is Cincinnati, Ohio, on 8/19. Maybe I can get that as a birthday present. This song is just about the perfect rock song-screaming guitar, straight ahead hard drumming backed by brilliant bass and of course, Vince Neil's voice. And bonus scantily clad women.

It's Raining Men by The Weather Girls (C) 1983 Sony Music Entertainment. This video is pure 1980s, from the hair styles to the clothing to the dancing. But, it's beautiful. Why? Because the Weather Girls are two big, beautiful women who are being adored by a bunch of hot men. In the 80s, you could make a video like this one. Now, it would be them singing and a lot of hot women being adored. So, I love this video almost as much as I love the song. It's from the end of the disco era and I was SUCH a disco queen...I really miss the days when everyone was dancing. I really love all the music of that era. (A close second for me is I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor, which became my theme song when I took my two babies (3 year old and six month old) and left my first husband.)

Ready to Go by Republica. The first computer file Hubby ever shared with me. A kick-ass beat and crazy-sauce lyrics. Still love this song. Best listened to at speaker blowing volume.

Bonus songs I'm addicted to: In no particular order: )

Six is definitely NOT enough.

I'd better stop now. That list barely scratches the surface of the music I love.

Just for fun The I-95 Asshole Song a local band I knew in my younger days sang this song almost every night by request, accompanied by the audience. Fun times.

Music is one of my passions. I worked for a local band as the lighting director for two years in my early twenties. Still the best job I ever had. A real regret in my life is that I never had the discipline to learn to play an instrument.

(I'm still pondering trying to learn how to play the drums.) (I'm a decent air-drummer.) (No, really.)

(Okay, really stopping now.)

Edited to add: OMG how could I forget Culture Club? )

Day 4 - Seven fears/phobias

Bugs--all sorts. I don't even like to look at pictures of them.
Claustrophobia.
Riding in the passenger side of an auto. That's where I was when my ex-asshole tried to kill me.
Large crowds of people. I have to find the edge or a clear space or I have an anxiety attack.
That my husband will die before me. (He shouldn't since he's younger, but you never know.)
That the fear-mongering that's going on right now will never stop.
That this is all that there is.
