Snow, Car Doors, Valentines and Babies...

So, this morning, hubby looks out the window and chirps, "It's snowing!"

Then I look and say, "Oooo, pretty."

Then we exchange Valentines (details to follow) and finish getting ready for work. He heads off while I finish sending off the e-tines. I finish, gather all my stuff and head out to my car. I put the key in the door, turn it, pull on the handle...

...and nothing.

So, I turn the key the other way, thinking that perhaps I had a senior moment and accidentally turned the key the wrong way...and...

...still nothing.

I wiggled the key, turned it this way and that and...

...nothing.

Did I mention it was snowing?

So, I walked around to the passenger side of the car and repeated the process.

Still nothing.

I was nearly a popsicle myself by this point and frustrated beyond my capacity, so I started back inside...only to be accosted by a HUGE brindle-colored dog--some sort of pitbull/retriever/great dane mix...who galloped up to me, barking (not the nice "hi, I don't know you" type of barking--the "Hey, who the fuck are you and why are you walking there?" barking) scary-dog barking. I froze, remembering what the Dog Whisperer said about pretending the dog is not there, and just looked anywhere but at the dog as he stood not four feet away from me barking and growling. I was so frightened, but I just stood there and after about five minutes, he turned and ran off.

I hurried back into my apartment, turned the computer back on and emailed my husband at work (he is answering phones this week, so it was the fastest way to reach him) and told him he'd have to come get me since I couldn't get into the car.

He emailed me back and suggested pouring hot water over the door and lock as he suspected it was frozen because of the rain/deep freeze combo we had last night. So, I did as he suggested and HUZZAH! got the door open. I hurried back inside, emailed hubby to praise him as a genius, gathered my things and started back out again.

I locked the door, started toward the parking lot and heard a familiar growl and barking from behind me. The brindle dog was back, and as growl-y as ever. I stopped again, waited again, heart POUNDING again, until I heard him trot up the stairs then I walked EVER SO SLOWLY so as not to incite him to chase me, to my car and got inside. He showed up again moments later right in front of my car. To say I was scared is an understatement. And that is unusual for me because I like dogs and they usually like me too.

Anyway, I drove to work and when I arrived at the parking lot and got out--THE DAMNED DOOR WOULD NOT CLOSE TIGHTLY. Apparently, there is a "safety mechinism" inherent in Chevys which trips if there's any "trauma" to the door. At this point, I was almost a half an hour late for work and beyond my capacity for coherant thought. I closed the door as much as I could, making sure the dome light was not on (I did not need a dead battery on top of everything else), I headed in and went to report to hubby. He said we'd go out at lunch and see what we could do.

Fast-forward to lunch and when we go out--the door CLOSED AS EASY AS PIE. racka fracka.

That has never happened to me before. And in my own defense, I come from Florida and this is not something I have any experience with. GAH. I hope it doesn't happen again.

So, the gifts. He received two cards: one of the new music cards--with the Barry White song "My first, My Last, My Everything" and a sweet message. The other is a mushy romantic one. He also got (is getting, it's not here yet) an autographed copy of one of his favorite DVDs "The Last Unicorn". Oh, and this:

I received three yellow roses, a huge mushy card, some very excellent chocolates and I get to buy some clothes for myself.

We also had dinner at our "Valentine place" which is a better-than-average Chinese buffet. Our own little tradition of three years. We invited Adam, Nicole and Tyler to join us and had a wonderful dinner.

And after we got home, we got a call from Amanda. She is having her baby tomorrow! She's been in labor for about a week--and is 2cm dialated, 100% effaced. Woohoo! My sister is going to call me and leave the phone line open so I can "be there" when baby Max is born. I checked again for airline tickets, but they are all too much. Shit. I hate being poor. I wish ... well, you know.

That's all for now...guess that's enough. I'll update you with baby details as they become available.
