rayvyn2k: A snowflake (snowflake)
In your own space, set some goals for the coming year. They can be fannish or not, public or private. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

My #1 goal is to not cancel my plans to go to Misti-con. Which I contemplate every day.

#2 goal is to turn in any and all stories for fests on time. I almost did it last year, but missed by two.

#3 goal is get some weight off--but that might be hopeless at this point.

#4 goal is to drink more water.

Lastly, try to make it to work more often. Heh. That will depend on my mental health more than anything. And I have to achieve the last if I hope to achieve the first.

rayvyn2k: A snowflake (snowflake)
Posted on Day 2, heh.

Last year, like many people, AR's death derailed my participation. I hope to do better this year.

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I'll list some of each. All of my stories (except those in currently running/just completed fests) are at AO3.

There are two that I am so proud of that very few people seem to read:

Changing the Epilogue archiveofourown.org/works/349091 This was written for the late, lamented LJ SS/HG 2007 winter gift exchange. Hermione goes back in time to save Severus. She relives the War year with him while hiding at Spinner's End. I think it's one of the best I've ever written. Alas, my smut gets more hits.

To Have or Have Not (The Severus and Hermione Version) archiveofourown.org/works/5627287 This was written for the SS/HG giftfest on LJ. Severus has left the Wizarding world and is living quietly as a Muggle boat captain in Dover, UK. He uses his boat to take tourists to Calais until Unspeakable Hermione shows up to ask a favor. If you like Humphrey Bogart/Lauren Bacall films, this story is an homage to their first film together.

The works that define me as a creator are my erotic ones:

The Red Dress archiveofourown.org/works/1882878 Written for the 2011 Mini-fest on Live Journal. Prompt #155-Hermione's Red Dress. Hermione bought the dress on a whim, then forgot all about it. When the Minister demands her presence at the Ministry’s Yule Ball, “Operation, Granger: Belle of the Ball” begins. A Happy Ending is guaranteed.

The Binding archiveofourown.org/works/7110334 (Multi-chaptered WIP) After the War, Hermione Granger goes back to Hogwarts for her delayed Seventh Year. Draco becomes dangerously obsessed with her, but Severus Snape is watching over everything. Shenanigans ensue. (I suck at summaries--Snape and Hermione become magically bonded via an aphrodisia potion. Hermione is a student and Snape is teaching. She's 20 in my story. But if student/teacher isn't your cup of tea, best not to read.)

Lastly, a couple of my favorites:

Promises archiveofourown.org/works/1909926 Written for the 2006 Live Journal Wizard Love exchange. Hermione is of age, but if teacher/student bothers you, again, best not to read. Set during the Christmas holiday in Sixth Year. Hermione is home for the holidays. She rescues Remus Lupin in his werewolf form from an attack by werewolf Fenrir Greyback. Lupin is gravely injured, so Hermione sends an owl to Headmistress McGonagall asking for help, which arrives in the form of Severus Snape. (Substantially rewritten July 2016 and another chapter added.)

Getting Things Sorted archiveofourown.org/works/4175403
Written for the 2014 Hoggywarty Xmas Party on LJ. Minerva needs help at Christmas and the Sorting Hat comes to her rescue. This one fits into both the "people don't seem to read" and "favorite" catagories.

Snowflake challenge Day 2

In your own space, share a book/song/movie/tv show/fanwork/etc that changed your life. Something that impacted on your consciousness in a way that left its mark on your soul. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Star Trek: TOS was my very first fandom. I co-authored a novel-length story using these characters back in the 70s. I have seen the shows so many times, I can tell you the title just from the teaser. The other day, when I came downstairs in the morning, my hubby was watching this show. It was in the last third, and I glanced at the screen and told him which one it was--and he exclaimed "Are you a wizard?" LOL. Nope, just love that show to pieces.

Harry Potter novels: I am so grateful to JK Rowling for writing these books. Not just because I've found so many friends online because of them, not because I have written thousands of words about them. The reason I'm forever grateful to her? Because she wrote these books, my son reads. And it is all because of the HP books. My son had an (undiagnosed) learning disability (dyslexia). He was "socially promoted" through school, without being able to read very well. One day, I took him to the bookstore with me. He asked me to buy him the first HP book in hardcover. (The third had just come out.) I told him no because he never read any of the other books I'd ever bought for him. He swore he'd read this one. So, I made a deal with him that I would buy him the paperback copy and if he read it, then told me about it, I would not only go back and buy the hardcover of the ones that were out, I would also buy him all the rest in hardcover.

Well, he did. And that got me reading them. And I pre-ordered every other one for both he and I, so we have four first editions each.
And he still reads!! He's been reading for pleasure ever since. It's a miracle.

Have to import all my LJ entries here, I hope it's not difficult because I should have been backing them up all this time, so there are many.

I've added a bunch of folks, and hope that those I didn't add will add me.

That's it for now.
rayvyn2k: cute icon (Cute Icon)
I'm rayvyn2k over there as well.

Please add me if you haven't and want to. I'd love to see all my friends from here over there, too. Just in case.

(I'm not leaving LJ, but it's better safe than sorry as the old saying goes.)

Oh, and also...

Happy-New-Year-wishing

I hope 2017 is kinder than 2016 was...but unless something is done about the Orange One...I'm not optimistic.

Love to you all and {{{hugs}}} to those that want them.

Daydream Believer

As always, many thanks to my lovely beta [livejournal.com profile] islandsmoke.

And a HUGE thank you to [livejournal.com profile] helenarickman for my super sexy gift The Vault. D/s and very yummy.
rayvyn2k: cute icon (This all seems horrible)
It was a head-on collision. (He's bruised but, thankfully, okay.) The other driver crossed over into his lane. My son swerved but still got nailed.

His car is probably totalled--the airbag deployed.

Since he just bought a house, he's going to need help to rent a car for a week--of course it has to be Christmas week--I'm trying to see if they can make it with the one car until after Christmas to save some $$. He won't be going to work for a day or two, but since he works for Amazon, yeah--busy time of year for them.

He's going to see his doctor today. He was checked out in the ER last night--no broken bones. He's very sore today.

In other shitty news, a very close friend of my Hubby's is moving to California. My Hubby is devastated. He's happy for his friend, but it's been ages since he had a close (male) friend--so he's taking it hard.

2016 can fuck right off.
rayvyn2k: cute icon (Hogwarts)
Got my holiday shopping and baking done. Gifts are wrapped apart from three that I'll do tomorrow. The kids and grandkids will be coming over on Christmas day for revelry, which will be fun. And best of all, Hubby and I are both off all of next week--Huzzah!

So, I ordered the Harry Potter Lootcrate. It came today. This is the outside of the box.

Closeup of box (800x757)

The rest of the unboxing pics are
under the cut. )
All in all, well worth the money I spent.

In other news, I broke a toe yesterday. Wasn't sure, went to the doctor and had an X-ray today, and yup. Broken. Great. I'm going to be cooking on Christmas day. They gave me a crazy-looking shoe thing to wear, but it is way too big and also rubbed some crap off onto my sock, so I probably won't wear it. They said that one of the drug stores in the area might have them, I'll have to check.

That's it for now.
rayvyn2k: cute icon (Snape is hot)
And they posted my gift second!!

The Vault

It's a Dom/sub story, with Snape as Dominant and also as a teacher of sorts. The rating is T, so there's no explicit sex, but it's wonderful. Oh, such a lovely portrayal of a nervous beginner and an experienced Dom.

I loved everything about it. I also hope the MA decides to continue it because the way they ended the story leaves room to continue.

There's art for [livejournal.com profile] mundungus42 that's beautiful and hot.

Run, don't walk over to the comm and give the authors and artists some love! It's only just begun!
rayvyn2k: cute icon (Are you f-ing kidding me?)
I saw a tweet tonight that said:

Gun control. Bye.
Marriage equality. Bye.
Climate change reform. Bye.
Woman's right to choose. Bye.
Criminal justice reform. Bye.

https://twitter.com/KJS407

He's right. And I'm so afraid right now I'm almost paralyzed. I literally cannot believe that white people were willing to vote for a misogynist, racist, sexual predator for president--but it happened. I mean, I knew the state I live in would vote for him because they are a bunch of racist assholes for the most part.

Apparently, most of the people in this country are also racist assholes. At least, most of the ones who voted.

I keep reading things like: "Let's figure out how to get through this together." "You're strong! Pick yourself up and fight!"

We've already lost. Once that asshat has control of the military, there will be no stopping him. He will literally have the firepower to back up whatever asinine thing he chooses to do. And he's already colluded with Putin, so.

I have no hope left.
rayvyn2k: cute icon (Quill)
Finished stories for two of the fests I signed up for and turned them in. Only one to go.

I took some pressure off myself by realizing that my stories don't have to be long to be interesting. :) That helped.

Hubby had his first improv class on Tuesday. He came home smiling and that's wonderful to see. Also, he's been on a stay-cation this week, (I've been working so he has the house to himself) and I told him he can't go so long without time off again. He is back to his usual sweet self. I didn't realize what a prick he had been until he wasn't anymore.

Work still sucks balls, but it's only until 9/1/2020. I can make it that long.

Here's pics of the house, my kids and grandkids decked out for Halloween. Loads of pics under the cut )

Going to see "Doctor Strange" tomorrow night and more Improv on Saturday. Also, my DIL's birthday dinner before the Improv. So, busy weekend. :)
rayvyn2k: cute icon (Smiley Rhino)
I married my best friend. He wasn't my best friend at the time, but he has become that in the intervening years.

cathygregwedding13

I don't have 80s hair anymore, thankfully. My husband still looks almost the same. His hair is longer and his middle is thicker, but basically the same. (I love it and hate it at the same time.)

We exchanged gifts last night since we're leaving for our annual Gatlinburg trip tonight after work (and coming back home tomorrow--ugh. Next year, we are taking an extra day off).

He gave me a second Pandora bracelet with a charm and two spacers! And a mushy, perfect card. I got him a Shakespeare tee shirt. He's been wanting one for ages. It wasn't cheap, but wow, did I make out this year!

In other news, I turned one fest story over to the beta and wrote about half on another last night. Woot! I've decided that I don't have to write epic stories like some people I could mention (cough[livejournal.com profile] mundungus42cough), and that has freed my mind. :) So, Yay for short stories!

Not looking forward to the four hour drive tonight. If it hadn't been too late, I would have cancelled the hotel reservation and just stayed home.

See you on the other side of the weekend. :)
rayvyn2k: cute icon (Can you believe the shit we deal with?)
Today is the first day of early voting in my state and since I am off (took a random vacation day), I decided to go vote.

I dropped Hubby off at work and headed across the street. One of the early voting locations is very conveniently located.

Since I live in a red state, I brought my tablet with me in order to have a book to read while I waited in line for the place to open. It was a preventative measure.

It's a good thing I did because the stupid in the line, it burns us, precious.

Let's see, there was "you don't really know if your vote counts because: hackers". Which is stupid because:
it's virtually impossible.

See also: "Can't trust computers." "Government can go in and change votes in the computer." "I wish I could see my ballot before and after (FYI--you can)."

Then the always popular: "We're really just voting for a vice president, anyway." Really? Is that how you're justifying voting for the Orange One? If you're voting because you think Pence is a "better" option, you haven't done your homework:
He's scary on woman's & LGBT rights. Very scary.

I would be equally happy with Hillary or Tim Kaine (aka America's Dad) in the presidency.

When the folks in line started talking about how happy they were that people have to show a picture ID here in order to vote, I couldn't keep quiet any longer. I said, "I'm not. It's the most un-American thing I've seen." There were shocked faces and some started to say something about voter fraud and I shut them down. "We have voter registration cards. That's enough. Again, requiring a government ID is against the Constitution.". Then I returned to reading my book, seething inside.

When I was shown to the voting machine and the volunteer was going over how it worked, I said-"You wouldn't believe some of the things I overheard in line about computers." She rolled her eyes and said, "I spend 40% of my time explaining that it's impossible to rig elections." I wished her luck and thanked her and she smiled at me because she realized I was sincere.

I have a feeling she's voting for Hillary, too.

Now, I'm going to try to finish one of my fest stories today and get it off to my beta reader. The HP world should take the bad taste out of my mouth.

Randomness

The members of my family who are Florida residents survived Matthew with no damage, thankfully. My sister had an electrical line down in her backyard, but FPL came out yesterday and took care of it and her power is back on. That was the worst thing that happened to anyone and I'm thankful.

I got all of my assignments for the various holiday fests I signed up for and happily, I have ideas for them all and one has 2500 words written and is fully plotted to the end. For a procrastinator like me, that has to be some kind of miracle.

Hubby has decided that he's going to try his hand at improv. There is an improv group in town, and a bigger one in Nashville called, believe it or not, Nashville Improv. He started going to the shows and became interested in doing it himself. He has "volunteered" a few times to get up with them during a performance, and he's done well, but he is so nervous he can't relax. My husband is very funny and really quick--but he is like a deer in the headlights on stage. So, he's signed up for their classes, the next series begins next month. He wants to see if he can really do it or not. I hope he finds a way, because he would be so good if he would stop thinking and just react like he does during day to day conversations.

My brain is screaming at me to cancel the trip to Misti-Con. It's seven months away and I'm already stressing about it. It is so far out of my comfort zone, I'm freaking out a bit. Nearly cancelled it the other day, but hubby talked me out of it.

Work is doing everything it can to make things shitty for the workers. September 1, 2020 is my retirement date and it can't get here soon enough.

Nothing else much going on. Going to work on the fic today. I might even get it finished...or nearly so. :)

A collaborative effort between me, my hubby and the tattoo artist. I designed it, hubby drew the heads, I drew the bodies and the artist added the stars and the writing. I wanted something to celebrate my OTP.

Tattoo (800x553)

When I'm 80 and the great grandkids ask me about it, I'll tell them that Nana used to write naughty fan fiction and got a tattoo to celebrate it.

What do you guys think?

Our old car blew the transmission on Friday.

We rented a car and had the Buick towed to the shop. The repair would cost 2400.00. Hubby decided we would just get a new car.

So, at 8 am yesterday, we were getting our car repaired, by 2 we were on our way to CarMax, and by 5 we had signed the papers on our new baby.

It's a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. )

My head is in a whirl at how fast it happened. My husband is not known for making snap decisions.

I told him it doesn't count as a birthday gift. ;)

I'm going to get a tattoo today. Hubby and I designed it. It's going to celebrate my OTP. I'll post a pic later.
