We finally, FINALLY got a Publix Supermarket here in Murfreesboro.

Publix has been in Middle Tennessee since I've lived here, but there has never been one close enough to M'Boro to be convenient for me. So, for the past three and a half years, I've been shopping at a very adequate substitute called Bi-Lo.

But, I was missing my Publix.

Well, at the end of January Bi-Lo closed. We do not get the newspaper, so we did not realize why it was closing until my son told us...Publix had bought them out!

For the last two months, I have been forced to shop at Kroger...which is an okay store, I suppose, except for the elbow to elbow shoppers no matter when you go...which made me not want to shop at all.

Understand...I LOVE grocery shopping. I find my calm center by wandering the store, planning meals, thinking about preparing the food, serving it...and of course, eating it too.

So, to have my grocery store be wall to wall people, mostly in a hurry, mostly rude, was not the zen-like experience I have come to enjoy. Which means I avoided going. We ate a lot of take-out during the last couple of months. I often sent Hubby so I didn't have to go.

Well, Publix opened this week.

And it seems, I am not the only one in M'Boro who has been waiting for this event. The parking lot has been full every single day since they opened their doors on Wednesday. (I have had a stomach bug since then, so I haven't been out of the house at all anyway.)

So, today, I got up early and got there before 8 am. I was able to wander the aisles, thinking, planning, enjoying the ambiance of the store. Every employee that I encountered smiled, greeted me and offered their assistance. The store was clean, the aisles wide and un-cluttered, the merchandise well-stocked.

I only meant to get a few things and came home with a cart-ful.

*contented sigh*

I can't wait to go back.
