I have to say I loved the show this year. Loved Hugh Jackman hosting (OMG, that man is sex on a stick, isn't he?), loved all the songs and dances, loved the former winners saluting the nominees (Sophia Loren, next time, write your own material)-was not surprised that a)Heath Ledger won Best Supporting Actor and; b)that Mickey Rourke did not win for Best Actor (no way the Academy members are going to let his crazy ass on stage to make a crazy speech on their big night--the Golden Globes are one thing, but the Oscars are different).

Loved Kate Winslet's speech. ("Dad, whistle or something so I know where you are.") Loved Sean Penn's, too. ("You commie, homo-loving sons of guns.") Loved composer A.R. Rahman's music and the performances thereof. His speech ended with "All my life, I've had a choice of hate and love I chose love, and I'm here." That is a wonderful sentiment.

All in all, a good show, I thought. Loved the new format and I hope they keep it.

Now, I want to see "Slumdog Millionaire"--wonder if I can talk hubby into taking me?

I decided to go ahead and write down my thoughts as they happened during the Academy Awards show tonight. You guys are so lucky! Now you get to read all about it! Behind the cut because this shit is long. )

Jon Stewart started out kind of rough, but smoothed out and found his rhythm so I think he did an overall good job as host. The show was decent and moved along at a good clip...for the Oscar show.
The only thing missing was my friend Lisa...we have, in the past, watched the show together and snarked about it.

I have to get to bed now...it's waay past my bedtime.
