Birthday wishes..

Showing off a bit
Dec. 21st, 2005 04:08 pmMy husband is a very talented artist. Lately, he has be focusing on caricatures and has set up booths at street fairs, etc where he has made quite a bit of extra cash.
You may remember that we went to a wedding in July of some online friends I knew from the Knockturn Alley Harry Potter Forum Board.
At the time, hubby told the happy couple he would send them a caricature. Well, he has finally done it. You can see the picture he drew it from and the finished product ( behind the cut )
They received it in the mail and they wrote to say how much they like it. And they are sending us wine. Jack's wine, which is award-winning. Yum. We can't wait to sample it.
Oh, and I found out I will be getting my severance pay as promised. Just not in time to go to Florida. So, that company wound up royally screwing me in more ways than one. Without a kiss, even.
Trying to make the best of it. Have been baking like a crazy person. I finished the Italian Wedding Cookies today. I found some cute Nestle's Santa morsels and I made a batch of chocolate chip cookies using them which I will bake tomorrow. Hubby's last present came in the mail today, although I have an idea for one more which shouldn't cost too much.

The rest of the birthday stuff
Aug. 19th, 2005 11:41 amSo, I received a lovely card and a check from my Mom. Also got another card and another check from my in-laws.
Hubby bought me a very pretty charm which is heart-shaped and says "Love" on it and the most beautiful, mushy, lovey-dovey card ever. He took me out to dinner at Chef Wang's, our fav Chinese buffet (he weasled out of the Red Lobster I wanted, but this was good too).
UPS has been trying to deliver a package for three days. It boggles the mind that they come back every day at the same time even though they know no one is home. *boggle* It may be from my sister.
Oh, and I bought myself a birthday gift which should be here soon (before I got any birthday money from anyone) and it is season one of "The Muppet Show" on DVD. W00T!

Aug. 17th, 2005 01:06 pmI found my desk all decorated for my birthday. It was decorated by a wonderful friend of mine who I have brainwashed introduced to the HP love. I heard from several sources at work that she has been planning this for over a week and I just love her for it. This really made my day to walk in and see my desk ( like this )
Also, my brother called me at work (a miracle, that boy never calls!!), my son called and I got e-cards from my sister and my daughter.
I'll let you know what hubby gets me...as usual, he's waited until the last minute...
We are going out to eat tonight, possibly Red Lobster...

Happy Birthday, Joe
Apr. 27th, 2005 09:03 amMy brother Joe would have been 45 years old today. I still miss him so much, I cannot tell you how large a chasm his passing has left in my life. I couldn't let this day go by without acknowledging my "big" little brother.
Behind the cut is a picture tribute along with the essay I wrote the night I found out about his death.

Lisa, I love you like a sister--and you know how much I adore my sister! We have been through so many things together, Subway and single motherhood being on the top of the list. Not to mention all those nights spent in front of my old Tandy 1000 typing papers and my book. I am thinking of you today and I hope your day is as wonderful as you are. I miss you so much.

You have given me more joy and more happiness than I ever hoped to have ever. Home today, not feeling so hot. I'm really trying to fend off a cold which is threatening me. I can feel it starting in my clogged head and my upper respiratory area. And my throat. But it's not full-blown yet, and I'm hoping to keep it that way since I CAN'T GET A FLU SHOT THIS YEAR.
Fuck you flu shot makers.
On a completely different note, it's about 45 degrees outside right now, not expected to get above 59 today and I'm still enough of a Floridian to find it amazing that it actually gets cold in November rather than January. It's expected to get into the 30s tonight and DAMN. I do love the crispness of the air, but I'm not looking forward to actual winter. People around these parts are predicting snow.
