Yesterday morning as we were on our way to work, hubby said--"so, we should look into going to the mountains one weekend this month."

My mouth fell open in surprise.

When we got home, we got online, booked a car and a room and we're going to Gatlinburg & Smoky Mountain National Park the weekend of October 25...we're calling it our anniversary trip since our 8th is October 21.

My hubby is becoming more spontaneous! Yay!!

By this time next week...I'll be chillin' on my dad's screened porch, full of his famous bbq ribs and enjoying the hell out of the family.

My daughter and her family will be driving up...huzzah!! That means only my brother won't be there...sadly it is his MIL's birthday, so he can't come. :(

Looking forward to getting away and hanging out with family I don't see often enough.

Ahhhhh

Me and Hubby are home today. We decided that we needed a 3 day weekend, so we are taking one.

So far we've slept in, had a fantastic breakfast (french toast, bacon and scrambled eggs--yes, I'm awesome) and right now I'm on the computer (obviously) and he's playing a video game.

Later, more good food and relaxing.

Over the July 4th weekend, we're taking a road trip to visit my Dad and family in Morriston, FL. Got a great deal on a rental car and will be traveling in style in a Mercury Grand Marquis (or similar car). Besides my dad and his wife and her sister, MY sister, her hubby and possibly my nephew and his girlfriend (I'll believe that when I see his face--sorry, sis) AND my step-sister and her husband will all be driving up from Ft. Lauderdale as well.

I'm trying to convince my brother and his family and my daughter and her family to join us.

Dad is grilling his famous barbecued ribs...YUM.

Sooo excited.

After work. Because of a snafu at the car rental place (they didn't hold a car for us and thought an SUV would be an acceptable "upgrade"--um, NO) we have to pick up the car tonight before we leave. (They did offer to drop it off at work, but since both of us work on the phone, it would be too much of a headache to coordinate...especially since they didn't want to commit to a specific time.) Then we'll be on our way to our friend's house in north Georgia where we'll spend the night. Just an excuse to visit them, with the added bonus of getting a head start on our way to my Dad's house.

Friday will be driving to Dad's place, getting there and getting settled etc. Also meeting and getting aquainted with their new dogs. And admonishing my Dad for being a big ol' butthead about the hospital. Seeing my daughter, her hubby and my grandson for the first time since May...and hopefully my sister.

Saturday will be our faux Christmas, I think. And visiting. Then Sunday is the long drive home.

Back to work on Monday...ugh.

So it'll be a whirlwind trip, but I'm sure, well worth it to see the folks we love.

Oh, and I did all of my Christmas shopping last night (except for Adam and Nicole, hee) from the comfort of my desk chair. Heh.

I'll be taking loads of pics, so I'm sure I'll have some pic-spam when I get back. ;)

We're Off!

We are getting ready to leave the apartment for an adventure! We are taking "the road less travelled" to the Shiloh National Military Park. Barring any massive traffic snarls, it should be a relaxing, interesting day.

Don't break the internet while we're gone!

Pictures when we return!

Unlike the other countless times I've hinted that we might do something over the weekend other than just be slugs. hee. Hubby went to wash up some clothes, so I think we're really going to hit the road tomorrow. So Yay!

His car is going to cost 150.00 to repair. A rear wheel cylinder blew out and it has to be replaced, the rotor on that wheel turned and the rear brakes replaced because of the brake fluid that soaked them.

Not too bad. We both heaved a sigh of relief at that one.

So, one down, one to go.

And tomorrow morning (hopefully) it's off to Shiloh! (And Graceland, if I can convince him to go the extra 150 miles...)

Thanks for all the support and hugs, they were appreciated. :)

So, Hubby and I take off early today to go to pick up my car and bring it back to M'Boro with the intention of taking it to the repair shop that's worked on it before for a second opinion.

On the way to Lebanon, something broke on Hubby's car. His brakes have been dodgy for a couple of weeks, and we were hoping to extend it for a couple more since my car needed so much repair. But nope, the issue was forced and we basically exchanged one car for the other at the repair shop. (They said my car was okay to drive back to M'Boro, and it was--it's running really rough, so we really don't want to move it too much until we move it to the new repair shop, heh.) Something really broke in his brakes and they almost failed completely (freaking us both right out) and by the time we got there, brake fluid was basically pouring out of the back brakes.

So, on the way home, we decided we would simply rent a car for a week while we wait for his to be repaired. Then we will take mine to Phil's for a second opinion.

We rented the car (a lovely, champagne colored 2006 Ford Taurus), had supper at a fabulous little catfish place, and while we were there Hubby declared he just wanted to get out of town for the weekend.

I agreed.

So, we are going to visit Shiloh National Military Park and we are not taking the interstate. We decided we will drive there along the regular roads. We are going to take our time, visit the battlefield and the Indian Mounds and perhaps spend the night in a motel. We may or may not, but we're taking an overnight bag just in case.

We just need to get away for a bit. :) Pictures will be taken and posted when we return.

I think we've earned a road trip, don't you?

On Saturday morning, hubby and I rose early, showered, packed and loaded up the cats' food and water. We got in the car and headed out on our adventure! Instead of our usual McDonald's breakfast (a tradition for us whenever we start out on a road trip), we stopped at Jack In the Box for one of their Ciabatta Breakfast sandwiches. Oh. My. God. For several minutes, there was nothing but yummy noises coming from both hubby and me. That sandwich is a heart-attack on Ciabatta bread, but it was sooo good.

So, we got onto the interstate and made our way to Rugby. What a crazy ride THAT was. The road was kind of crowded, but there were quite a few entitled assholes who thought they had to "get ahead" of everyone else and did so by weaving dangerously in and out of traffic. Hubby and I just shook our heads and hoped they got caught by the cops before they crashed.

It didn't take as long to get there as we thought it might, so a couple of hours later, we arrived in Historic Rugby.

My account of our trip including lots of pictures. Dial up friends, you have been warned! )
I would like to encourage all of you reading this to take the road less travelled by as often as you can. We had the best time, just talking, laughing, oohhing and ahhing over the scenery all the way home. The time went by so fast, it seemed like before we knew it we were back in familiar territory. And we didn't have any of the stress or headaches that sometimes come from travelling on the interstates because there were no idiots on the road we were on. We travelled through several small towns and saw some awesome homes and beautiful landscapes. I highly recommend it!

Well, that's basically it. When we got to Lebanon, we stopped by our pub for a drink and a snack before heading home. The kitties were glad to see us! I told hubby we have to stop being lazy and do the whole weekend trip again. The entire thing, including gas, admission, food and souvineers cost less than a hundred dollars. Well worth it. This was the best anniversary yet. I can't wait for next year!
rayvyn2k: Woohoo Snape (Woohoo Snape)
Last night, we went out to dinner and spent a lovely hour just talking and laughing and enjoying our meal. Then we came home and I received my gift. Hubby got a beautiful Churchwarden pipe the night before (like Aragorn smoked in LOTR) with a wooden bowl (beautifully carved--5 years = wood). I received a lovely figurine of a couple dancing called "The Promise". Hubby said "It's not wood, but it looks like it was carved from wood, doesn't it?" and I have to agree. We gave each other cards that made us cry. Then he swept me off to the bedroom...and all I can say to that is DAMN.

Hubby and I have decided to extend our anniversary celebration for the weekend. We are hitting the road in about a half an hour and heading north to a town called Rugby. "...founded in 1880 by British author and social reformer, Thomas Hughes. It was to be a cooperative, class-free, agricultural community for younger sons of English gentry and others wishing to start life anew in America."
Read about and see pictures of Rugby, TN

We meant to go back in July on our way back from Beth and Jack's wedding, but because hubby's best friend's dad died, we had to go straight home. We are really looking forward to seeing the lovely Victorian buildings and having lunch in the pub. We are taking some clothes so we can spend the night if we want to, but we are really leaving things very loose. I love being spontaneous!

I'll have a full report with pictures when we get back.

Hubby and I are going out of town tomorrow morning. We will be driving to Kingsport, TN to attend the wedding of a couple of my online friends from the KA HP forum board. We have never met Beth and Jack, but are really excited about going to the wedding. We are dressing up (hubby in his suit, me in a new dressy pantsuit and silver shoes) and I told him he must dance with me at least 3 times. :)

Aside from the wedding, the best part is just going to be being on the road with hubby. We always enjoy the ride so much!

Will post pictures once we get back.

My hubby and I are thinking of buying tickets to the U2 concert which will be there in May and driving up. It would be ever so much easier if we "knew" someone there...also could use advice for *inexpensive* accomodations.

I wonder if I can talk him in to going up early on Friday and trying for Oprah tickets?

Just a quick update to let you all know that we got back Monday night, safe and sound. The trip was emotionally exhasting, but very good. Saw my grandbabies, kids and assorted other relatives...some of whom I haven't seen in years.

I will post a much more detailed entry as soon as I get the pics and some other stuff I want to share with you all.

On a completely different note, tomorrow is our fourth wedding anniversary. (And they said it wouldn't last!)

I wrote four more pages of my fic last night, I may finally get it updated this weekend--W00T!

Now, I'm off to catch up on all my forums, websites, blogs, LJ's...

Tomorrow morning we are heading south to FL for the inturnment of my brother's ashes on my Dad's property.

Tonight after work my husband is going to do the laundry (yay! even though I have to fold it to prevent it looking like it just came out of the bottom of the closet). After that is finished, we have to go drop off an apartment key to my MIL so she can check on the cats while we are gone. Then it's off to the airport to pick up the rental car and back home to pack and (hopefully) load some of the stuff.

Somewhere in there we have to find some supper.

Tomorrow morning we are leaving for the 8-9 hour drive (depending on who's driving, heh) to my father's place where we'll meet up with my other sibs. Friday is supposed to be the event...my mom is coming with her husband then. Saturday will see an influx of about twenty other relatives. EEK! I don't know how many are staying over, many I think. We are all scattered in the motels in the area.

I'm not sure what's on the agenda for Sunday and then Monday we are heading back home.

I hope the cats don't destroy the apartment too much while we're gone...
