Ventured to the grocery store at midday today...the Saturday before Thanksgiving...and was pleasantly surprised. Because of Publix's wide aisles, extra help and fantastic all around atmosphere, I was able to get in and out fairly quickly. And with little to no pain at all. Huzzah! Everything I need is in the house.

The menu includes turkey, dressing, sweet potato casserole, mashed potatoes, corn, rolls, and my son is bringing the green bean casserole they like.

Dessert will be apple pie, pumpkin pie and pumpkin cheesecake. My son is doing the pumpkin pie. (His mother taught him well.)

I have already made pie crust and will make and freeze an apple pie today or tomorrow.

While I had the food processor out (I use it to make my pie crust using this recipe which is so damned easy I wish I'd known about it years earlier) I pulverized ginger snap cookies for the pumpkin cheesecake crust.

Tuesday is make the brine day and possibly cheesecake. Wednesday will be dressing, sweet potato casserole and peeling potatoes (maybe). Putting the turkey into the brine Wednesday.

Thursday will be relaxing in the morning, sweet rolls for breakfast (our little tradition), watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade (and cursing at all the commercials...honestly...I remember the way it used to be and I really love parades, but hate all the commercialization...and YOU KIDS GET OFF MY LAWN!), then setting the table and getting the turkey in the oven. The last minute flurry to get everything on the table...and then...enjoying time with some of the people I love.

Trying to pace myself this year so I'm not completely exhausted Thursday. It'll help that I'll only be working Monday and most of Tuesday. Getting off a couple of hours early then not working again until 12/3.

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday.
