I initially bought the Nook version of "Thoroughly Modern Monsters" (also available in paperback & Kindle) just because I know so many people who contributed and I wanted to support them. I was a bit nervous about reading it, however, because I'm a big chicken who only reads romance, erotica and occasionally, fantasy.
Last night, I finished the book I was reading and decided to go ahead and give this one a try. It was early enough in the evening that I knew I could get any frightening images out of my brain before bed, if I needed to. (I have nightmares, which is why I don't read or watch horror.)
How wrong I was! The book is a short story anthology with stories which show monsters (so far vampires, werewolves, ghosts, mummies, zombies, banshees and even a re-animated man reminiscent of Frankenstein's monster called Frank. HEE.) in the modern world. Hence the title, I presume.
I have to say, the book has kept me completely captivated so far. And not a nightmare in sight. Again--so far. I just want to send kudos to all the lucky authors on my f-list who were asked to write something for this first publication. You have all done very well.
Can't wait to finish!
