I married my best friend. He wasn't my best friend at the time, but he has become that in the intervening years.

I don't have 80s hair anymore, thankfully. My husband still looks almost the same. His hair is longer and his middle is thicker, but basically the same. (I love it and hate it at the same time.)

We exchanged gifts last night since we're leaving for our annual Gatlinburg trip tonight after work (and coming back home tomorrow--ugh. Next year, we are taking an extra day off).

He gave me a second Pandora bracelet with a charm and two spacers! And a mushy, perfect card. I got him a Shakespeare tee shirt. He's been wanting one for ages. It wasn't cheap, but wow, did I make out this year!

In other news, I turned one fest story over to the beta and wrote about half on another last night. Woot! I've decided that I don't have to write epic stories like some people I could mention (cough[livejournal.com profile] mundungus42cough), and that has freed my mind. :) So, Yay for short stories!

Not looking forward to the four hour drive tonight. If it hadn't been too late, I would have cancelled the hotel reservation and just stayed home.

See you on the other side of the weekend. :)

Which is only three days long, not counting the weekend, but we are going to Gatlinburg to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary and I can't wait to get away.

On the other hand, I did write 4k words this weekend, and I'm very pleased with my [livejournal.com profile] sshg_giftfest story so far and hope to write a couple thousand more before we leave the computer behind.

Hard to believe it's been 15 years.

Oh, and my beloved tablet, Star Lord, has a battery problem. Which I'm really cheesed off about since we paid a lot of money for this thing and I expected the battery to last longer than 14 months. It is reluctant to charge, literally taking days, and then uses up the charge in half an hour.

Meanwhile, the first generation Nook reader I have is happily charging and holding the charge as I read my books.

Grr. I'm going to have to take my tablet over to the Geek Squad and hope they can fit it with a new battery.

Or just buy another tablet. I can get the same one now for 150.00 less than I paid for this one. So, it's tempting.

I'm off

Going to Gatlinburg, TN for the day/night. Our annual anniversary trip. 11 years...holy crap! (And they said it wouldn't last.)

Will be back Saturday afternoon/evening.

Planning to debauch my husband at the hotel. *wicked grin*

Don't break the internet while I'm gone.

*hugs f-list*

Yay!

The cat, Nikolai, has a new home.

YAY!!

And another thing...

Eight years ago, I married my very own Prince Charming.

Happy Anniversary, Baby. The years have flown by in a blink. Here's to the next eight.

Flashback!

This has been the third best day of this year--behind my two trips to Florida and just ahead of my folk's visits here.

We had an awesome time...here's a couple of pics to whet your appetite. )

We took the road less travelled on the way home (there was no room at the inn or we would have stayed) rather than the interstate and it was the best choice. Driving through the Tennessee countryside and small towns and talking and laughing and just enjoying each other's company.

More tomorrow, bed now.

Last night, we went out to dinner and spent a lovely hour just talking and laughing and enjoying our meal. Then we came home and I received my gift. Hubby got a beautiful Churchwarden pipe the night before (like Aragorn smoked in LOTR) with a wooden bowl (beautifully carved--5 years = wood). I received a lovely figurine of a couple dancing called "The Promise". Hubby said "It's not wood, but it looks like it was carved from wood, doesn't it?" and I have to agree. We gave each other cards that made us cry. Then he swept me off to the bedroom...and all I can say to that is DAMN.

Hubby and I have decided to extend our anniversary celebration for the weekend. We are hitting the road in about a half an hour and heading north to a town called Rugby. "...founded in 1880 by British author and social reformer, Thomas Hughes. It was to be a cooperative, class-free, agricultural community for younger sons of English gentry and others wishing to start life anew in America."
Read about and see pictures of Rugby, TN

We meant to go back in July on our way back from Beth and Jack's wedding, but because hubby's best friend's dad died, we had to go straight home. We are really looking forward to seeing the lovely Victorian buildings and having lunch in the pub. We are taking some clothes so we can spend the night if we want to, but we are really leaving things very loose. I love being spontaneous!

I'll have a full report with pictures when we get back.

I married the man of my dreams, my "handsome prince", the love of my life. And, things have only gotten better since that day. The card I gave him says, in part:

"With you, I've found a once-in-a-lifetime friendship
and a once-in-a-lifetime love--
You're the friend I want,
the husband I need,
the reason I have so much
to celebrate today."

And it is so true. We have become the very best of friends, and the people who meet us for the first time (like his friend's lady) can see how close we are and comment on the way we seem to be on the same wavelength--finish each other's sentences--and just adore each other.

I love him more today than I ever have. But not as much as tomorrow...(to quote the song by Goldfinger)
