Me with straight hair
Mar. 20th, 2007 09:46 pmWent to get my six week trim at the hairdresser's today and she styled it straight.
This is so awesome to me as I have extremely curly hair and have never, ever had it straight. Oh, I tried many times when I was younger, but it was never as smooth as it is right now.
Here is what it usually looks like:

And this is it tonight:

Squeeeee!
I'm not sure hubby is too thrilled with it...but he likes things to stay the same...
Tomorrow we go get the rental car...Thursday after work...Ft. Lauderdale, here we come!

Dad's Temper Tantrum and my haircut
Dec. 6th, 2006 09:59 pmSo, my sister called me tonight and asked if I'd talked to my Dad yet today. I told her no, I hadn't had time to call him. Then she proceeded to tell me all about his behavior in the hospital today.
Apparently, he was not moved out of ICU because there were no available beds on the surgical floor. When he found out he wasn't going to be moved, my dad decided to have a full-on tantrum! First, he refused to eat his lunch. Then he removed all of the monitoring pads/velcro straps and his oxygen tubes from his nose. His wife calmly went to the nurse's station and informed them that the reason his monitors were flatlining is because he removed them. Bless their hearts, the nurses were amused by this. Dad also would not take calls from anyone, including his sister who lives in CT. Again, my stepmother handled things, chatting with Aunt Nancy.
Dad's hunger strike only lasted until they brought dinner and he ate everything they gave him except the squash. Also, I guess my sister got to talk to him and heard a litany of complaints about the room...his bed is uncomfortable, he's sick of watching TV (but his eyes hurt, so he doesn't want to read)...there is only one chair in the room and the surgical rooms have a sofa in them...OMG, he's acting like such a brat! And he used to give us a whole bucket of shit about pouting about something! LOL, my dad is a damned lousy patient.
So, I got brave and got my hair cut today. The last haircut I had over a year ago turned out to be a nightmare...it was a full-on mullet! But there's a girl at work who has curly hair like mine and her hair is gorgeous...so I asked her where she got it done. I called the lady and she was able to get me in tonight.
What do you think?

Went to the hair salon yesterday for phase two of "get rid of the damned mullet." (Long story short--in December I decided I wanted my long hair cut shorter and layered and went to the wrong salon and wound up with a mullet. Two weeks later, I went to a salon closer to my home where I had been before and begged them to do what they could to fix it. It's a work in progress.)
So, go in, get the trim--which I have to say, my stylist will never pass through a metal detector, but she's fab. My hair already looks 100% better after only two visits. It'll probably take one or two more until it's fixed completely. As I was leaving, I was juggling my jacket and my purse and was not really watching where I was going. I stepped on one of those smock/cover thingies they put over you to keep most of the hair off and my foot went out from under me...and down I went...in a split. Like a cheerleader. And, honey, I'm no cheerleader--not even within 100 pounds--if you get my meaning. Landed on my right knee and really stretched my left inner thigh. Everyone in the shop ran over and were all "are you okay?" etc. as I lay there moaning. I just asked them to give me a couple of minutes...the pain was exquisite. So, after a few minutes, I rolled over and got up. They offered me my haircut for free, but this girl was not at fault (it was the girl next to her) so I declined the freebie. They took my name and number and told me to call if I have any problems later on.
I took some Advil and it helped some, but I got really stiff overnight. Right now, my left wrist, my right knee, my left inner thigh and both hips are hurting. Thankfully, hubby stayed home today to help me, because simply getting up and down from the sofa is torture.
What a clutz.
