Such a great weekend!
Oct. 27th, 2008 11:54 pmSo, hubby and I took a road trip to Gatlinburg, TN this past weekend. We rented a car and hit the road on Friday morning. It was raining and it rained the entire way there. It did finally let up once we got close to Gatlinburg and by the time we arrived at our hotel, it had stopped. We checked in to our hotel (which was not the one I thought it was when I booked it...it was a bit off the beaten path, but was okay) and then we headed over to the arts and crafts community to find the pub we had eaten at last time we visited. We found a different pub called "Jared's Grill at the Ship" which may have been even better. The food was to die for...yum. After we finished eating, it was raining again, but we decided to check out the nearby shops anyway. This turned out to be a mistake as, when we were headed back to the car, I slipped and fell down several stairs. I scraped and bruised both wrists and my knee. The biggest casualty was my beloved African animal motif umbrella which took catastrophic damage and had to be thrown away. I was sort of in shock, but hubby took great care of me for the rest of the night.
Saturday morning, we slept late. By the time we arose, showered and got on the road, the restaurant where hubby wanted to eat breakfast had a line down the block. So we ventured further along the main street, parked the car in an all-day parking lot ($8.00!!) and had a fabulous breakfast at a place called FlapJack's. After breakfast, we went to the Gatlinburg Craftsman's Fair and wandered around the booths. The amount of talent some of these folks have is simply astounding.
A couple of hours later, we walked from the Convention Center to Ripley's Aquarium and looked at the beautiful fish and other exhibits they have there. It was much more interesting than either hubby or I thought it would be and our visit was topped off by stroking a sting ray! (They are smooth and just a bit slimy if you go front to back, but if you go the other way, their skin is sharp and scratchy.) We had left the camera in the car, so unfortunately we don't have any pictures of this momentous event.
After we finished at the Aquarium, we walked back down along the main street, looking into many of the various shops and making a few purchases. Lastly on Saturday, we had dinner at Bubba Gump Shrimp Company. Our waitress was adorable and the food was really good. We bought beverages that came with the souvineer glass, so we both got a little memento from our visit. After we finished eating, we headed back to the hotel where we both were asleep by 9:30.
Sunday morning we were up bright and early. We checked out of the hotel, went to FlapJack's for another breakfast that couldn't be beat, then headed into Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

( Lots more pictures behind the cut. )
All in all, a wonderful weekend. The worst thing about it was coming back and having to go to work today.
