So, I dragged out my long-neglected novel...

...yesterday. And as I was going through it I realized that my first three chapters are utter crap.

The rest of it is pretty good--if I do say so myself.

But I resisted the urge to correct or rewrite and I got some more of it done. I want to try to actually finish it, if not send it out into the world.

"Yeah, right." I hear many of you saying. And you're correct. But, the characters seem to be bothering me again, so we'll see how it goes.

I intend to get it finished, then go back and see if I can do anything about the first part of the book.

On another note, by this time next week, Hubby and I will be on our way back from our Florida visit!

Ah, Florida. Where you will never find yourself up over your ankles in slush.

I started a book once, and was thinking about it the other day. I realized that it was started over twenty years ago, and that some of it would have to be re-written (if I decided to finish it) simply because technology has changed so much. Didn't that make me feel old!

Luckily, mine is a Sci-Fi/Romance novel. So...not so much with the updating. Just with the sucky beginning. Which I have to make better or no editor, publisher, agent will read enough of it to get to the good stuff.

Ah, revisiting old writing. I do that on occasion. It's a good way to see how much I've changed in my writing style and ability.

Isaac Asimov took more than 20 years off from writing fiction, and hit his stride without pause when he started again.

It's good to reconnect to the past through your writing.
