Because
shagsthedustmop gets such great stuff, I just have to pinch it for my own little part of the LJ world:
1. If you could be a Harry Potter character for a day, who would you be? Why?
Snape because he is so damned smart, and so snarky with a quick mind I envy. Also? Because I WANT TO KNOW WHAT THE HELL HE'S UP TO, DAMMIT.
2. How did you discover the world of Harry Potter?
It was the first book my son ever read all the way through. We were at the bookstore one day, and he asked me to buy him SS/PS (It was already in paperback and CoS was out in hardcover). I basically said "no, because I buy you books but you never read them" and he swore to me that he would read it. I relented (with very little hope, but figuring a paperback is only six bucks, so--what the hell?). He asked me to get the hardcover version. I told him no. He begged. I finally made a deal with him. If he would read the paperback and then tell me the story, I would not only buy him SS/PS in hardcover, I would buy him every one of them as they came out. Well, to my utter surprise and delight, he read it and told me enough about it (I still hadn't read it yet) to prove to me he had. I have very happily kept my end of that bargain ever since, pre-ordering the books via Amazon so he gets them the day they're released. My son then badgered me about those books until I read them. Like many of you, once I started, I read them all and then was frustrated by having to wait for #4 and #5.
3. Are you left or right handed?
Right--although I can write a bit with my left.
4. What's your favourite colour?
Purple and blue.
5. Do you have any pets? What is/are their names?
I have three cats: Kira (named for Kira Nerys from Star Trek), and the evil tuxedo cat twins, Pippin and Merry.
6. When was the last time you stayed up all night to finish a book?
Years ago, "The Mammoth Hunters" by Jean Auel.
7. What was the name of the book?
See above.
8. Have you ever had any supernatural encounter(s)?
I believe both my late, beloved Grandma and my dear departed brother came to me in seperate dreams to reassure me they are okay.
9. Where is your favourite holiday destination?
Disney World. I've been there over 25 times, and it's wonderful every time.
10. Dark chocolate, milk chocolate, or white?
It's a tie between dark and milk, but I occasionally like white.
11. Beach or mountain?
I cannot choose. I love both.
12. Do you like your given name?
Not really, but I only dislike my first name, whereas I HATE my middle name. If I could, I'd change my first name to one of the longer versions of it: Cathryn.
13. What was your favourite subject when you were in school?
Creative Writing/Journalism
14. Least favourite subject?
Math
15. What's the worst job you've ever had?
It's a tie...the first job I ever had I worked at a KFC with a crazy boss. That lasted less than a week, and ended when he threw the french fry container across the room. I called my Dad and he came to get me instantly. The other one was earlier this year I worked for an outfit called National Fulfillment which does customer service and shipping for various infomercial products. If you see one that has an address of "Lebanon, TN" that's them. They were simply horrible to work for. It is really indescribable. They tried so hard to be "professional" and they really had no idea of the meaning of the word.
16. I wanted to be a/an __________ when I grew up.
Artist or a writer.
17. Describe the clothes you are wearing right now.
Soft, pink flowered PJs.
18. Do you have any quirks that not many people are aware of?
I talk out loud to my cats and to myself when there's no one around.
19. Have you started your Christmas shopping yet?
Yep, started in September.
20. Do you enjoy cooking? If so, do you have a favourite recipe to share?
I love to cook, and I use shortcuts often because of our schedules. One "shortcut" recipe we love is shrimp tortellini alfredo. I buy a jar of alfredo sauce, frozen medium shrimp and the fresh pasta tortellini. Put water on to boil for the pasta. Then clean the shrimp then throw them in a frying pan with melted butter and garlic. Season to taste and cook the shrimp. When they are done add the jar of alfredo sauce, seasoning with pepper and italian seasonings to taste. Turn the heat down to low. The water should be boiling, so put in the pasta and cook according to directions (usually only a few minutes). When the pasta is finished, drain and put into bowls. The final touch for the alfredo shrimp is to add some sour cream. Spoon onto the pasta and serve. I will usually serve this with crescent rolls or I will bake a loaf of the Pillsbury french bread and time it so it's hot from the oven when the alfredo is finished. This whole thing takes about 15-20 minutes.
If you get "good" jar sauce and doctor it up, it saves so much time.
And finally, a bonus question I always ask my friends...
21. Which Darrin do you prefer? Dick York or Dick Sargent?
Dick York.
Happy Birthday to my first-born, my beautiful girl--who has grown to be such a fabulous young woman--and is now a mother herself...
My darling Amanda who is 24. I love and miss you, sweet girl and I can't wait to talk to you later!
