I received Harry Potter: Page to Screen as one of my Christmas gifts. I asked for this book as it looked like something I would enjoy very much since I love all that "behind the scenes" stuff.

Yesterday, I read it all.

Color me disappointed.

The book itself is gorgeous. It is beautifully bound, full of interviews, on-set stories, photos, blueprints, concept art and many other fantastic things.

But, as I read, it dawned on me that an important character was being given the short-shrift. Snape was only mentioned, I think, twice in the entire first eight chapters (which detail the movies). In fact, the chapter of the movie synopsis of HP6 didn't mention him AT ALL. (Last I heard, Snape WAS the HBP, so WTF?) The chapter of the movie synopsis of HP3 doesn't mention him AT ALL. Nor HP2, HP4, HP5, or HP7. He gets a brief mention in the synopsis of the movie HP8-with a pic of him and Voldemort in the boat house.

Now, perhaps the author couldn't get any interviews with AR, but that is NO excuse to basically cut Snape out of all the movies! Geeze, the producers and writers screwed him over badly enough but this book...it was like Snape was not even in the movies at all.

The character page showing Snape didn't really detail his costume as some of the other costumes were detailed. There was a throwaway line about how his costume didn't change throughout the series. His frock coat for the Yule ball was different and more ornate than his usual teaching robes.

The pages dedicated to the wands of the various characters shows the "death eater #5" wand, but not Snape's. The line is...Snape's wand is black and unadorned. Really? That's not what I bought from WB...

They do not mention the potions classes at all. They do show the potions classroom...when Slughorn was teaching. Again...W.T.F.

What a disappointment.

Did the mention was a disapointment the costuming was for slughorn and narcissa....nooooo

I have seen Rickman's costume. it is poly, and faily simple. Lupin had a more quality costume than Rickman.

I blame it on the "all about harry" crap that to stupid movies perpetuated.

Hugs.

Yes, that's true. But there is a fairly high-res shot of AR during the Yule Ball and his frock coat seems to be a bit fancier...there is black on black sort of a raised pattern on it.

This book was very detailed about the patterns/embroidery on the other costumes, so I was a bit miffed by that omission.

that's disappointing. I saw a copy (sealed) at a bookstore and was thinking how very cool it was.

It is a very cool book, don't get me wrong. It just essentially leaves out the most important character--and my thinking is it's because AR doesn't really do interviews like that--is the reason.

Pure speculation on my part, of course. But...still. To not have any mention at all in the HBP chapter? When Snape killed Dumbledore? Really?
