Just feeling a bit dragged down by the job even though, overall, it's much better than most. There are just some things about it that are so aggravating...it's difficult when you're in a service type of business and some folks forget the "customer" part of the equation. I wish I could be like some people who can just let things run off them and never worry about work...I can't do that and when I am working with a customer to try to solve a problem or find an answer for them, it is hard when you have to deal with someone who is all "well, they fucked up so tough shit". I was so upset last night after work, I went and lay down in my dark bedroom. Bless my hubby, he came in and held me and let me rage and cry. That helped so much. Then when I got back in this morning...well, let's just say I didn't want to stay. But, I have been working O/T this week and if I leave I will blow it, so I'm still here just biting my tongue.

On a more positive note, we are going to spend Saturday night and Sunday in the country with his folks. It's his Grandfather's birthday and so it will be nice.

Does anyone reading this work from home? If so, do you like it? Is it distracting? Are you still as productive, less productive or more? I'm curious because on the Q/T I've been asked if the possiblity arose, would I be interested? The answer, as far as I'm concerned is "yes", but I was wondering what the folks who do it think about it.

I'm so sad that Lori and Bolo (my sweet and sassy rasslers) were eliminated from The Amazing Race on Tuesday. Now the only team I care about is Kris and Jon. *sigh* Wish I could go to TARcon in NY for the season finale, but it's not possible this time around.

*pets Ray* Don't let it get to you, love. I'm glad your hubby is around to hold your hand and pet you, but if you can find a way to leave work AT work, you'll be a happier girl, I think. :)

I only worked from home once, for about four months. It sounds very appealing, but to be honest, I didn't like it. Felt like a slug - I would literally "work" in my bathrobe and slippers all day. I think it's better to get showered, get out of the house, and interact with people, face-to-face. Of course, you're probably not as big of a slug as I was at that point, so maybe it would work out better for you.

*hugs her*

Thanks, Donna. As always, your hugs are very welcome and appreciated. I am excited about the prospect of working at home because I have an hour commute to and from work every day which would be nice to avoid.
It's still very iffy at this point, but I would love to try!

Yea, bummer about Lori and Bolo. I just hope that the others have learned to read ALL the directions before they take off on a task. This is the second screw up in a row from not reading all of the directions (although I was uber happy when Jonathan and Victoria were booted). I don't care who wins this season, but I will finish watching it. I loved the elephant polo! It looked like a blast. And I loved how they said that they might be eliminated for doing the slower task but they couldn't turn it down because they may never get a chance to do it again. Fun fun!

The elephant polo rocked! And I agree, if I was not behind, I would have done that too. So much more fun than climbing a tree--even if it was slower.
The only team left that I care about is Kris and Jon. They are just so nice, and they are so appreciative and happy to be in the race I would love it if they won.

working from home

The best I can do is to tell you about a friend who has worked from home at different times and her dh who used to run his business from home. From her comments there were pros and cons -- for one thing she is very very self-disciplined and for the most part worked the same hours as if she was going into the office. She let their answering machine take personal calls (just like she was not at home) except during lunch, but, if she needed to do something during working hours she would make up the time when it was convenient during the same week. As her friend, I can tell you she still worked overtime when needed so at times her weekends got real short and she never "cheated" her employer out of any time. Also, she has a medical condition that has some influence -- she has Usher Syndrome and as a result has reduced peripheral vision and night blindness. During the winter months she has to leave work before it gets dark and if it is a very dark and stormy day, it really is not safe for her to drive even during daylight hours.

On the other side of the picture a guy she works with tele-comutes and the last time we talked about it, they were just about to issue an ultimatum to him -- come back in the office or find a new job. Unlike my friend, he would work his hours but not always (more like usually) when he felt like it and was not available for co-workers to IM or call when they needed him. Frustration from co-workers is going to do him in.

As for her dh who worked from home for years with his own business, that is a whole different ball game. That is when you work all the time, including weekends, because you are afraid to turn away work. Oh, and when you decide to take time off, that is money out of your pocket because the self-employed don't usually pay themselves vacation or sick pay.

Need to know any more..... call me, we can talk about it

I knew you would know some folks who had worked at home! Instead of the telephone, how about we get together on Friday and have dinner? And this time, I promise to remember the sewing machine! What do you say?
