House Update

Okay, the long-awaited house update.
When last we heard from our intrepid future homeowner, she and her hubby were off to see the lawyer to find out exactly what needed to be done to get some of the acres deeded over. We had to get all of hubby's aunts (there are four of them) to all agree to his father's decision to deed over some of the property. It is in the will that they all have a say, so they have to sign off on any decision which transfers ownership...even if it is to someone who is a co-owner--like my hubby.
So, there were a few angsty weeks while we waited to hear from the aunts. One by one they agreed until there was only one hold-out. Things looked bleak. Then, after Booty's funeral, we were at his folks' house and his father got a phone call. It was aunt #4, who had apparently gone and visited her Daddy in the graveyard, had a chat and was told it was a-okay with him if some of the property was deeded to his grandsons for the purpose of putting houses on it. She called his dad to let him know she wouldn't stand in the way.
So, the following weekend, we trooped over to the lawyer's office and she advised us that hubby's father, mother, all of the aunts and their spouses have to sign a paper agreeing to the deeding of the property. First we have to have the acreage surveyed and the plots properly drawn up. Then the quick claim deed can be done once everyone has signed off on the paper. Once the deed is drawn up we can rush to the bank and mortgage the property so we can build our house.
The survey is supposed to be done this week. The lawyer can't do anything without that.
We also have decided to go with another manufactured home company. We were thinking about going with Clayton Homes at first, but there's been some really scary stories we've read about their tactics with their customers--not to mention the fact that they have not treated us very well at all. So, his brother recommended that we check out Meadow Homes and we did and the difference is night and day. The sales people are very friendly but not pushy. We looked over all the models in the lot and found one that will work for us, but we told the sales guy we had fallen in love with a model over at Clayton Homes...the trouble was, we never got a floor plan or the name of the model. Hubby drew the floorplan to the best of his memory and the salesguy said he would try to find it for us.
So, right now we're just waiting for the survey to be finished and the sisters to sign the paper. Then we're going to pick out the damned wallpaper. Finally.
