Yesterday was my birthday (no I won't say which one) and it started out bad, but had a good ending.
The bad was my hubby going to work after I had begged him to take the day off. Since he gave notice at his (now former) job, I asked him to make his last day Monday so we could spend my birthday together. But he didn't. He doesn't seem to realize how much birthdays mean to my family...this one was especially difficult for me because 1)it was the first one I've spent without my sister, and 2) it was the anniversary of the last time I saw my brother alive (he died last October). Was it too much to ask for my husband to spend the day with me? Apparently so. I was pissed, upset...you name it. Cried for hours after he left. Contemplated going to see a movie at the time he was due home, just out of spite. (I wasn't sorted into Slytherin for nothing.) Was talked out of it by more cool-headed people. (Damned Gryffindors.)
Anyway, when he got home, I was showered, my hair was done and I was ready to go out to the promised dinner. He gave me my gift which was a nifty Harry Potter PoA watch--it has a silver face with a silhouette of Harry on his broom chasing the snitch. It has the words "something wicked this way comes" which tick around as the second "hand". There is a lightning bolt etched on it and the HP logo stamped on the black band. You can probably find a pic of it at Hot Topic (where he bought it) but I don't want to look myself, because I don't want to know how much/little he spent. I also got a Slytherin pin and a sticker of the Hogwarts crest. A funny and a mushy card. He did good.
We went to the Outback for dinner--I had prime rib and a loaded baked potato with salad and their awesome brown bread. He had the shrimp and fries and we split the "Chocolate Thunder from Down Under" (pecan brownie with ice cream, warm chocolate sauce and whipped cream) for dessert.
I also received a gift certificate to Cracker Barrel from my in-laws and a nice check from my Mom. Phone calls from the kids topped off the day.
So, it turned out okay after all.
Tomorrow night my sister is coming into town...YAYYYY!!!!! I took Friday off work, and we get to spend tomorrow night, Friday and Saturday together before she goes home on Sunday morning. I am so excited.
I posted my KA challenge fic to Occlumency tonight, but it probably won't go "live" until tomorrow, and I'll post a link when it does.
