And, yes he does actually bring the object back. We started with a crumpled piece of paper and that's still his favorite thing to use. He will do it with a ball, but sometimes balls will distract him and he forgets to bring it back, heh. Behind the cut are many pictures we took to document this amazing thing...since we all know how cats just hate to do anything their owners people want them to do. We have a short video, too, which is hilarious because Merry ambushes him while he's bringing the paper back and knocks it out of his mouth to steal it from him. hehehehe We have the best time watching our cats, we really do.

Here's one picture for everyone to see of Pippin bringing back the paper wad that hubby threw for him. That's Merry on the bookcase, watching in disbelief.

Get ready...

Get set...

Fetch!

Bring it back!

Alll the way back...

Give it to daddy (he's still working on that...LOL).

Throw it again!

Every day, Pippin will jump onto the table and "meow" at us until we wad up some paper for him to go fetch. Hope you enjoyed this as much as we do!

Now I must turn off the computer...thunderstorms are in the area. See you all tomorrow!

I think if we tried that with our cats, Miss Billie would shred my arm, Mongo would try to swallow whatever I threw, and Raoul would shout at the object, then fall asleep. :)

GOOD KITTY, PIPPIN! *tosses a ball for him*

You have to start when they're young. I started training Pippin and Merry with simple commands like "get down" from the time we adopted them when they were like 8 weeks old. They both know their names and will obey the "get down" command. This fetch thing is a first with ANY cat I've ever known!

Oh, that is SO adorable. Would love to see your vid short!

My cats just look at what I've thrown as if to say 'well, aren't you going to go get that?'

LOL, our other two do that. Or they run after it and knock it around on the floor, but only Pippin brings it back.
Unfortunately, LJ does not support video or I would have posted that, too.

Hey, Ray me darling! Love the puddy tat pics! What a pretty boy with his shiny white tuxedo bib and big yellow eyes.

This must be an extremely smart cat. My folks have a gray tabby who comes when she's called, but that's about the extent to which we could train her. (And she probably only does it because she realizes there's petting in it for her.)

Thanks! Pippin and Merry are (we believe) twins. They are both tuxedo cats and it is very hard to tell them apart at first glance. It's getting easier now that he is a bit larger than her.

The funny thing is, I always thought he was dumb as a rock, but he fooled me! And we didn't reward him with treats to get him to fetch, either. Only praise and much petting. He just loves to play with us, I suppose.

What beautiful kitties! And the one is so talented. (I won't say clever, but only because the other kitty probably thinks he's dumb. ;)

The other two just look at him like he's crazy. They also like to chase after the paper wad and play with it. And he is a clever boy.

Oh, kitty squee! I love kitty fetch. Faberge used to fetch when she was little. She had a particular fondness for round things (hair bands, hoop earrings), and Nymphadora fetches string and toy mice. Alas, Faberge is beyond games now and Dora ceased bringing things all the way back to me about 6 months ago. :-(

Enjoy this game with your Pippen. He's a real cutie! :-)
